Your Love Is Like a Flower, Part 1
To learn to play solos on classic bluegrass songs like Flatt and Scruggs’ “You Love Is Like a Flower,” you should start by learning the melody and the chord progression. Chad shows you his approach to playing bluegrass solos using this bluegrass standard, which you can hear the Bluegrass Album Band play in this clip. You’ll learn the melody and chords in the key of E, which is the key Chad sings it in, using standard “capo” positions, the major pentatonic scale, and other bluegrass fiddle techniques. Chad also talks about chord progressions and how he remembers the chordal structure of songs. Then he walks you through the melody, phrase by phrase and shows you how the chords relate to the melody.
