Adam Miller, Part 2: How to Play “Parker”
Adam Miller’s tune “Parker” is a funky fingerstyle tune played in dropped-D tuning. The piece is built around a simple bass line, mostly played in first position, and relies heavily on Miller’s ability to achieve independence between his picking-hand thumb and fingers. Miller thinks of the various parts in a rhythmic sense, with each picking finger taking a role based on the individual drums in a drum set. He puts particular emphasis on the subtle groove created by alternating his index and middle fingers to imitate a snare drum. “Parker” is not difficult to play from a compositional perspective, but mastering its rhythm and groove is likely to take some practice. adammiller.com
