Eric Skye, Part 1: “Happy Cake”
Eric Skye is a Portland, Oregon-based guitarist who is best known for his fingerstyle jazz arrangements. His most recent CD, A Different Kind of Blue, re-creates Miles Davis’ classic album Kind of Blue in a solo acoustic guitar context, and he also frequently performs in a trio with bass and drums. But Skye’s playing isn’t limited to fingerstyle jazz; he recently recorded an album of fiddle tunes with mandolin player Tim Connell. Also scheduled for a 2015 release is a duet album of original tunes with Peghead Nation Guitar Theory instructor Mark Goldenberg. In this video, Skye discusses his approach to playing fingerstyle guitar and plays his composition “Happy Cake” (originally recorded on his CD Slow Moving Dog). ericskye.com
