Mike Dowling, Part 1: “Let the Mermaids Flirt with Me”
Ever since first appearing on the roots music scene as a member of violinist Vassar Clements' band in the 1970s, Mike Dowling has impressed and delighted audiences with his engaging and versatile approach to the guitar. Dowling has played in many different musical contexts, but today, he is mostly known for his solo fingerstyle blues and early jazz arrangements, many of which feature his vocals as well as his tasty guitar chops. In this video, Dowling plays his arrangement of Mississippi John Hurt's "Let the Mermaids Flirt with Me."
