Teja Gerken’s 1994 Taylor 712c
Teja demonstrates his Taylor 712c, which he ordered directly from Taylor in 1994, while working at Tall Toad Music in Petaluma, California. He used it to record most of his first CD, On My Way (including “Seven Years”), played it on hundreds of gigs, toured Europe, and racked up thousands of airline miles with the guitar stashed in a Calton case. The guitar was built with Taylor’s original grand concert specs with a slightly shallower body and a longer scale than current grand concert models. The guitar has a Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. The guitar has been outfitted with numerous pickup systems over the years, and it currently has a Seymour Duncan MagMic installed. Other modifications to the guitar include a bone saddle, a Hipshot GT1 Guitar Xtender tuning machine that replaces the original sixth-string tuner for instant retuning, and John Pearse brass bridge pins for the fifth and sixth strings.
