Fiddle Tunes in D: “Fisher’s Hornpipe,” Part 1: A Part Melody
Many bluegrass guitarists tend to favor G and C positions, using the capo to play in other keys like A, D, E, etc. But open D position works well for lots of things, as well, including playing fiddle tunes such as “Fisher’s Hornpipe,” which you’ll learn in this lesson. Scott teaches a version in the octave it’s usually played in and another version in a lower octave, and then goes on to talk about playing harmonies to fiddle tunes, with an example of a harmony line that works with this version of “Fisher’s Hornpipe.” To get started, Scott walks you through the A part of “Fisher’s Hornpipe” phrase by phrase, with lots of opportunities to play along as you’re learning the tune.
