The beautiful “Ookpik Waltz,” which has become popular in old-time and bluegrass circles, was written by Canadian fiddler Frankie Rodgers. Before teaching the melody to “Ookpik Waltz,” Chad shows you a great warm-up exercise with open strings, designed to help you get even, consistent tone with your bowing arm. Then he plays “Ookpik Waltz” through before starting to break down the A part, phrase by phrase, showing you the bowing as he goes and finishing by playing the whole A part through slowly, so you can play along with him, once you’ve got it.
