Salt Creek

The second part of “Salt Creek” moves up into third position on the E string, so Chad starts by giving you advice on shifting into third position, with an exercise to help you practice the shift. Then he walks you through the A part, finishing by giving you an example of how he makes up variations and improvises on the second part of “Salt Creek.”

Swannanoa Waltz, Part 2: Adding Layers

In this video, you’ll learn to add hammer-ons, double-stringing, and pulses to the melody of both parts of “Swannanoa Waltz.” Chad also talks about getting an old-time tone by adding a little pressure to your bow and slowing it down a bit, so you’re kind of dragging the bow across the strings. He also shows you how you can play the tune in ADAE tuning, and how to adjust your fingering on the lowest string when you do.
