C Major and D Minor Tunes, Part 4: “The Broken Pledge”
D minor may be less common than other minor keys in Irish music, but it’s not unusual for guitarists to use D minor to play in other keys using the capo. For example, with the capo at the second fret, you can play E minor tunes using D minor shapes. The chords usually used in D minor are Dm, F, G, C, and Am. Flynn shows you the voicings he often uses in place of the standard chords: D5 for Dm, Cadd9 for C, and G/B for G. To practice these voicings, you’ll learn the D minor reel “The Broken Pledge.”
