Lester Young’s famous solo on “Lady Be Good,” which has been learned by scores of musicians, was recorded on September 9, 1936 with a small group consisting of Young, Count Basie, Joe Jones, Carl Smith, and Walter Page, which went by the name Jones–Smith, Inc. Joe walks you through the first chorus of the solo in this video.
