In this lesson, Scott shows you the solo he played on Tim O’Brien’s recording of the Bob Dylan song “Señor,” from Tim’s acclaimed Red on Blonde album. While it was a partially improvised solo, Scott followed a lot of the concepts he’s been talking about in other lessons on creating solos to songs: targeting melody notes, using lead-in runs to the melody, etc. The song is in a minor key with an unusual chord progression, and has a contemporary bluegrass feel. Scott walks you through the solo note for note, sharing some of the things he thought about while playing the solo and giving technical advice on certain aspects of the solo, like the slow vibrato he used on some of the long sustained notes.
